What is Lockbit 2.0 ransomware?
The malware analyzed by WhiteDefender, which is researching and developing ransomware security, is Lockbit2.0 ransomware.
Lockbit2.0 is an updated variant of LockBit ransomware. It encrypts all file data and makes them inaccessible. Infected files are appended with the ".lockbit" extension. For example, a file named "photo.jpg" will be changed to "photo.jpg.lockbit", and a file named ""sales.xlsx" will be changed to "sales.xlsx.lockbit". Once this infection process is complete, the desktop will be changed and a ransom note will be created/displayed.
Once this attack process is complete, a ransom note with the title "Restore-My-Files.txt" will be created in all directories containing files.
